*Mysore Practice
*Yoga Sutras study
*Anatomy in Asana
*Comparative study of Ashtanga Asanas
A Yantra is a geometric form used for meditation. Asana and Anatomy create a three dimensional yantra, meditated upon through the movement breathing system of Ashtanga Yoga. Patanjali's classical eight limbed Ashtanga philosophy details the goal: inward movement toward the bindu, the central point of stillness.
Lori Brungard, Christopher Hildebrandt, and Sarah Plumer are all long-time students of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy, and are authorized to teach by KPJAYI. Each has studied for ten+ years with senior teachers in their special field.

Ashtanga Yoga practice both creates changes and asks us to make them. It's useful to have guidance about how to make lifestyle choices which are sustainable, worthwhile, and supportive of our ultimate goals. This workshop will help establish a firm foundation to experience the powerful and ever deeper aspects of yoga practice. We will learn Ayurvedic principles to balance ourselves, define our asana practice, and refine our speech through study of Sanskrit. Patanjali, whom we thank at the beginning of each practice, wrote extensively on each of these subjects, and this workshop seeks to integrate them into life and practice.

The standing poses are fundamental to all levels of Ashtanga practice. Each one relates to other poses that occur later on in the Primary Series in a different orientations in space (ie supine or inverted). By juxtaposing the similar poses, we can gain deeper insight into the underlying principles at work, and how to overcome the challenges of each asana, creating a multi-dimensional, kinesthetic insight to the meditative power of the yantra.

The breath, so central to yoga practice, is expressed through sound. The sounds of Sanskrit are elemental and pure, and create vibrations that help us to purify speech, body, and mind. When seen in this way, Sanskrit is an important key to the ultimate goal of yoga practice, the unification of body and mind through the breath.
Tristhana, the three important elements of Ashtanga Vinyasa, or breath, asana, and drishti, also correspond to these three purifications. In this course, we will learn the sounds of Sanskrit, how to use them to pronounce correctly and decipher the Ashtanga Mantras, counting, and asana names. The course is open to anyone.
