Intro to Ashtanga Yoga: Traditional Vinyasa, taught by Lori Brungard

This Workshop series is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This practice is an elegantly designed sequence of breath-initiated postures, seated within the classical Ashtanga Yoga philosophy of Patanjali, found in the Yoga Sutras. Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught that the most direct entry point into this system is through asana, the third limb. The Primary Series, known as Yoga Chikitsa, or yoga therapy, systematically realigns the hips and spine to allow for a comfortable and stable seated posture, essential for the last limbs of concentration, meditation, and absorption.
This workshop will introduce the basic building blocks of the Ashtanga Yoga: breath, bandha, and drishti, embedded within Suryanamskar, the standing poses, and seated closing poses.
